UPDATE: In an almost uncanny development, as soon as this article started to go viral on the Internet, Time Magazine released a story claiming that Palfrey told author Dan Moldea that she would rather commit suicide than go to jail. What a funny coincidence!

They must have her gotten hold of her list then realized the book was nearly done.
She didn't kill herself.
As daunting as it might be to face essentially a life in prison sentence, and as much as she feared in-prison offing or retaliation, and as depressed as all of this might have made her --- it bears remembering that one of her most important call girls, the professor, seems to have "hanged" herself too. Am I right? Is this a fact?
Now think about why a woman of sophistication, facing ruin and possible murder in jail, would be inclined to hang herself.
There are far more gentle ways to die, are there not? The potential for strangulation might be something autoerotic males might go for -- but a woman?
No, this was a strangulation disguised as a hanging. In both cases. It was literally to shut up the mouth! It was done to save the hide of some high political criminal.
A real suicide by a woman who expected to be spending the rest of her life in jail (implausible since she would have appealed and she had a friend in Larry Flynt and lots of others), or who feared being killed in jail (but again -- who in jail would have done the deed for the establishment that they hate as much as she does -- like Martha Stewart, she would instead have made lots of friends)....a real suicide would have been as sophisticated as the woman. This is like being asked to believe that a call girl would die of a botched abortion. Never gonna happen.
