COMPREHENSIVE SHOUTCAST DOWNLOAD, INSTALLATION, AND SETUP FOR WINDOWS XP PROFESSIONAL
If you have a router and know how to forward ports:
Forward port 8000 on your router to your machine, follow all steps below except 1.A, 2 and 3.C.
If you do not know how to forward ports, use the following steps:
1.
A. Download AVG Anti-Virus Plus Firewall

while practicing Shoutcasting, you should also learn how to port forward your router.
B. Download Winamp 5.3 free version, full bundle

http://www.shoutcast.com/downloads/s...-7-windows.exeE. Close your Internet connection, and disconnect router from computer.
F. Click Start/Control Panel and locate your ant-virus program, and remove it.
G. Restart computer.
2. Install AVG Anti-Virus Plus Firewall
When prompted to choose which type of installation you want,
select "learning mode." When asked if you want to scan existing programs, do so. Let the scan run, then finish installing AVG.
3.
A. Restart computer.
B. Connect to the Internet.
C. When AVG asks if you want to allow the connection, do so. Place a checkmark
in the box that says "Always allow this program."
(Rule of thumb: when you start a program and AVG pops up to ask you
want to allow, do so. The corollary of this is, if you do not start a program and AVG pops up, you might have an
attempted intrusion on your hands, in which case you direct AVG to block. Remember this: you can always update any
program [and do not install programs that are NOT updatable] when YOU choose, and that way you minimize the risk of
intruders' posing as updates).
4. Install Winamp 5.3 and accept all of the defaults. Don't do anything fancy.
5. Click Start/All Programs/Winamp/Winamp and start Winamp 5.3
6. Click File/Options/Preferences
7. Scroll to DSP Plug-ins and left-click "DSP/Effect."
8. Click "Nullsoft SHOUTcast Source DSP v1.9.0 [dsp_sc.dll]." The SHOUTcast Source pane will pop up.
9. Close the Preferences pane, then MINIMIZE the Winamp pane. (NoTE: if you ever accidentally close the SHOUTcast Source
pane, do not panic. Simply perform steps 5B through 8 and it will reappear).
10. Install Shoutcast DNAS Server. Accept all of the defaults. Don't do anything fancy.
11. Click Start/All Programs/SHOUTcast DNAS/SHOUTcast DNAS (GUI) and start the server.
12. In the Nullsoft SHOUTCAST Server Monitor pane, click on "Edit config." This will give you access to the sc_serv file.
(At some point you will see a small pane pop up
that says "Important note 'Note that a restart of the server is required for any configuration change to take effect,'"
so when it the small pane does pop up, just click "Ok" and it will close).
13. In the sc_serv pane, locate the "Maxuser=" line, and choose the number of listeners you want. Go to the following site(s) to test your upload speed:
http://www.dslreports.com/speedtestThese sites will give your download and upload speed. Example: 3000/500 means download speed of 3000 Kb/second and upload
speed of 500 Kb/second. Next, choose the number of listeners you can handle and the quality of the sound.
For your sound quality choice, I recommend a bitrate of 32kbps (Mono) for transmitting talk,
but if you want to transmit mostly stereo music, you will want to use a higher bitrate, you can choose as small a rate as
40kbps (low fidelity), up to high fidelity rates of 256kbps (CD quality) or even 320kbps.
If your upload speed is 500kbps, you must first subtract 100kbps to allow for overhead and a bit extra for doing other things
like surfing, leaving you 400kbps with which to work. If, for example, you want to transmit mostly talk, divide 32 into 400,
giving you listeners.
Change the number associated with Maxuser= to the number of listeners you have chosen.
14. Refer again to the sc_serv pane. Find the "Password=" line, and remove the word "changeme" from the text. If you choose
to use 0b1nZezzam3 for example as your password, the finished line will read
Password=Ob1nZezzam3 in your file. Please create YOUR OWN password, and write it down. You will need it for step 17 below.
15. Click "File" at top of sc_serv pane, then click "Save" and then close the pane.

A. At upper left of Nullsoft SHOUTCAST Server Monitor pane, click "Kill server," then click "Yes."
B. Restart server by repeating step 11. Move the Nullsoft SHOUTCAST Server Monitor pane to the lower right of your
screen.
17. MAXIMIZE the Winamp pane. In the SHOUTcast Source pane, click "Output." Click the Password field and erase the bars,
then type the password which you put in your sc_serv file.
18. Click "Yellowpages." Make sure that there is a check mark in the box next to "Make this server public" (unless you plan
to have a private server). In the Description field, type "Rock Jock" or whatever you want to name your show. Leave the
other fields blank for now; you can fill them at another time if you want, as they are not necessary to the installation.
19. Click "Input." Under Input Device, select Soundcard Input, then under Input Settings, select the frequency (for
transmitting talk, choose "22050Hz, Mono." If you would rather transmit stereo music ranging in quality from 40kbps
up to and including 80kbps, select "44100Hz, Stereo."
20. Click "Encoder." Click Encoder 1 if it is not already highlighted. Under Encoder Type, click the arrow and select
"None." Click the same arrow again and select "MP3." Under Encoder Settings, select the appropriate bitrate, paying
close attention to the frequencies, and making sure they match those in step 19.
21. At top left of your Winamp pane, click File, scroll to Play, scroll to and click File, and select and open an audio or
audio/video file. Make sure the file is playing and sound is good.
22. Click "Output," then click the "Connect" button.
23. To direct listeners to your Shoutcast transmission, you must know your IP address. Point your browser to:
http://whatismyip.com and copy the string of numbers and dots which is your IP.
If, for example, your IP is 75.0.13.60 (this is ONLY an example), you would give your prospective listeners the
following URL:
http://75.0.13.60:8000/listen.pls25. Have someone you know and trust connect to your Shoutcast stream and give you a report on sound quality and stability
over time.
